Hummingbirds Learn Through Sports, Games, and Early Literacy Activities

The Hummingbirds class has been having a fantastic time exploring our Preschool Course theme, “All About Sports and Games!” Through a variety of active, creative, and educational activities, the children have been developing their physical skills, confidence, and early literacy abilities while having fun with their friends.

One exciting event this month was our “Wear Something Sporty Day!” The children enjoyed coming to school dressed in sporty clothing and sharing their enthusiasm for sports and active play. It was a wonderful way to celebrate healthy lifestyles and encourage a positive attitude toward physical activity.

As part of our theme, the Hummingbirds participated in a variety of ball-related activities. They enjoyed bowling games, practicing their aim and coordination while learning important skills such as turn-taking and cheering for their classmates. The children also explored creativity by painting with different types of balls, including footballs, creating colorful patterns and unique artwork. This hands-on activity encouraged both artistic expression and problem-solving as they observed the different marks each ball could make.

The class also took part in a range of fun ball games that promoted teamwork, listening skills, and cooperation. Through rolling, throwing, kicking, and chasing balls, the children strengthened their gross motor skills, balance, and body control while enjoying active play with their friends.

In addition to sports and games, the Hummingbirds continued to develop their early literacy skills through alphabet tracing and writing activities. The children practiced letter formation, pencil control, and letter recognition, building confidence as they worked toward independent writing. It has been wonderful to see their growing interest in reading and writing as they develop the foundational skills needed for future learning.
