バイリンガルエレメンタリーコースの6年生クラスでは、Oxford Discover 6の学習の一環として「橋」と「トンネル」について学びました。学んだ知識を実際に活かすため、今回はSTEM教育のプロジェクトとして、チームごとにアイスキャンディーの棒を使った橋づくりに挑戦しました。

子どもたちは、橋の構造や強度、バランスについて話し合いながら設計を進め、試行錯誤を重ねてオリジナルの橋を完成させました。英語でコミュニケーションを取りながら協力し、一つの目標に向かって取り組む姿はまさに未来のエンジニアそのものです。

プロジェクトのクライマックスは、完成した橋の耐久テスト。どの橋が最も重い荷重に耐えられるかを実験し、デザインによって強度が大きく変わることを体験的に学びました。

この活動を通して、子どもたちは理科や工学の知識だけでなく、問題解決力、論理的思考力、チームワーク、コミュニケーション能力といった、これからの時代に欠かせないスキルを育むことができました。

Our students in the Bilingual Elementary 6th Grade Course have been learning about bridges and tunnels as part of their studies using the Oxford Discover 6 textbook. As part of this unit, they explored how engineers design structures that are both strong and practical.

To put their learning into action, students worked in teams to design and build their own bridges using popsicle sticks. They carefully considered how to make their bridges stable and durable before putting them to the test.

The most exciting part was the strength test! Students observed how much weight their bridges could support and discussed why some designs were stronger than others. Through this hands-on activity, they developed their problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of engineering concepts.
